 Smoothies : WRONG FOOD COMBINATION According to Ayurveda..

In Ayurveda, an ancient system of medicine originating from India, food combinations are an important aspect of maintaining good health and promoting proper digestion. According to Ayurveda, different foods have varying energies and qualities[ RASA , GUNA , KARMA ,VIRYA , VIPAKA] , and when combined inappropriately, they can disturb the digestive process and lead to the accumulation of toxins (ama) in the body. However, Ayurveda does not specifically mention "smoothies" as a category of food. 




The concept of food combination in Ayurveda is generally based on the principles of the three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each dosha has its own characteristics and can be affected by the foods we eat. Here are some general guidelines regarding food combining in Ayurveda:

👉Avoid mixing fruits with other food groups: Fruits are usually best eaten alone, as combining them with other foods can cause fermentation in the gut and disrupt digestion.


👉Avoid combining milk and certain foods: According to Ayurveda, milk should not be combined with sour or salty foods, as it can lead to curdling and digestive issues.




👉Avoid mixing opposite food qualities: Ayurveda suggests avoiding combining hot and cold foods, such as consuming ice-cold beverages during or after a hot meal.


👉Consider individual constitution: Ayurveda emphasizes that dietary choices should be based on an individual's dosha constitution and any existing imbalances.

Forbidden smoothie combination 

These combinations can trigger digestion issues and skin diseases like psoriasis, eczema, acne, urticaria or skin issues. Therefore, avoid blending these combinations:.

  • Vegetables + Fruits
  • Fruits + Milk
  • Fruits + Yogurt
  • Fruits + Grains

When it comes to smoothies, Ayurveda doesn't have a specific stance on them as a food category. However, some Ayurvedic practitioners might raise concerns about the following aspects of smoothies:

* Cold and heavy: Smoothies are often made with frozen fruits and cold liquids, which can dampen the digestive fire (agni) according to Ayurveda.



* Raw fruits and vegetables: Ayurveda generally prefers cooked foods as they are easier to digest, and raw fruits and vegetables can be challenging for some individuals.



* Multiple ingredients: Smoothies often contain a mix of various fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and liquids, which can make it difficult for the digestive system to process.


It's essential to remember that Ayurveda's approach to food and health is holistic and individualized. What may work well for one person might not be suitable for another.
